Denial code OA-22

What does Denial code OA-22 mean on a medical bill?

OA-22 means the plan thinks somebody else should look at this claim first: another health plan, an auto policy after a crash, or workers' compensation after an injury at work. OA stands for other adjustment, the group used when an amount belongs neither to the provider's contract nor to you. The claim is parked rather than judged. It also fires when the plan's file wrongly shows a second policy on you, which the plan can clear once you tell it what other coverage you really have.

What should I watch out for with Denial code OA-22?

  • Ask your plan what other coverage it has on file for you and when that record was added
  • Tell your plan in writing that no other policy applies, when their file is out of date
  • Ask the billing office to refile after the coordination of benefits question is settled
